An Incomplete Collection of Design Work and Other Related Ephemera By
Wade Sakundiak
the following represents a selection of work created during the calendar years of 2004-2008. Where possible, a transferable document has been included in the popular portable document format to allow the viewer closer inspection of said works. Clicking on the link magically transfers this “pdf” to the viewers computer by means of fairy dust and an ancient incantation reproduced electronically within your computer by way of a series of gears and pulleys manned by a hord of small elves. To fully appreciate how this works, recommended viewing might include “the dark crystal” or “modern times” by the lovable Charlie Chaplin. Another work of somewhat less relevance that may provide some insight is Disney’s “tron”. Click on the images for a larger version or read the spiel to learn a little more about each project.

Poster for local musicians Numbers Hate Letters. Layers, colours, numbers, letters and the Golden Section. Personally placed constraints meant a whole different outlook on the use of type and experimentation with layout. Features Helvetica! Have you heard of it? You'd love it! Unless you're Eric Spiekermann, in which case, you really dislike it.

Tag and logo design for local bag maker. The idea is simple but fun, little price tags that resemble the tags on tea bags. Obvious? Maybe. Does it work? Yeah, I think so. I had tried to convince the client that dying the bags with tea would be a fun idea but it turns out that you'd need a lot of tea and it's possible that particular shade of brown isn't that appealing.

Ghosts Of Modern Man have been slugging it out in Regina for a longgggg time. I have had the pleasure of working with them on both of their cd releases and have done some promotional work for them as well. Thier CD "City Of No Light" was a good chance for me to switch to pen and ink and do something a little more organic and I was thankful for the opportunity to take a break from the computer and draw some type.

Local band Sylvie have been long time friends and helped me get started by letting me do my first project ever. That one isn't so good but we are both happy with where we've ended up. Over the years, I've done press kits, packaging, promotional material and more for the band and every time they have been a joy to work with and are always open to some fun print wise.

Despistado, a group of young turks out of Regina, asked me to do the covers for two of their albums. One I did twice when they switched labels and the other never got released. Kind of a shame. Plus, the last one was going to be released on vinyl which was a bit of a downer for a collector like myself but they were a pleasure to work with even when they clogged my toilet while passing through Calgary.

Does that name look familiar? Is it nepotism or am I cheaper? Probably a little bit of both. Regardless, doing the brochures for the family business was a hoot. Back in the day, my father used to do them so this was a great chance to show the old man up. Granted, I wasn't using a photo typesetter or cutting rubylith so maybe my job was a little easier but trying to invoke those old brochures was interesting.

A completely fraudulent work done only to see how easy it was to make a tourism advertisement. It turns out, it's pretty easy. Sunset, lake, subtle gradient and you're golden. Completed in a half an hour over lunch, it was pretty fun just to see how quickly I could pump something out. Not really a design breakthrough but fun none the less. It's clichéd but really, what tourism advertising isn't.

Another CD cover for Sylvie which is closing in on completion as this is being typed. That explains why I actually have the art for this one! Several challenges including getting a huge amount of logos on there without making it look top NASCAR and working with client supplied art. Still pretty fresh so I can't really go on about it but I got a chance to use DIN which is one of my favorites. Nice.

Website and logo design for small design group comprised of a couple of designers, a couple of photographers and a lady to write copy. Full disclosure: I am one of those designers. Currently a work in progress and likely to stay that way while each of us explore other pursuits but still worth a glance because I'm just so darn proud of how it's turning out.

My own personal space on the internet and just the way I like it. This site is kind of my own personal testing ground. It has gone through a total of 4 changes all through the use of Cascading Style Sheets. Am I getting bored of this incarnation yet? Not quite. I'll give it a few more months but it's worth checking back to see if I am.

Wade Sakundiak is a graphic designer based out of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He is fluent in print production, HTML, CSS and several other technologies that seem to be all the rage lately. His hobbies include reading books about computer programming, typography, design and works of fiction that contain humorous elements or works of non-fiction that contain no humorous elements. Wade enjoys music and has played guitar for the past 15 years and enjoyed some notoriety as the singer and guitarist in a couple of bands from the great city of Regina. Currently, he has switched to drums because he always wanted to play them when he was little but never had the chance. That is about as sob story as his life gets. Wade would very much like to talk about a position in your fine shop and can be reached at:
