Sarah Palin: The Day After

There is zero doubt that the choice of Sarah Palin as VP will go down as the dumbest move by a presidential candidate in the history of U.S politics. The real kicker here is that what we saw was way better than what we didn’t see. There is a very real opportunity for conservatives in the United States to take back their party and make it something worthy of respect. There is nothing wrong with conservative thinking, especially through the history of the U.S and if they make the right moves, rebuild the party on a more solid base (move away from the religious hold on the party, focus on the real core principles of conservative politics), they may end up being in a position of trust in the eyes of the American electorate. The frightening thing is that there are conservatives who are pushing for her to run in 2012. Not only would she be crushed under what will likely be an Obama second term (obviously too early to tell but given the voter turnout, he has certainly ignited a portion of the population that was otherwise disenfranchised and will likely remain loyal), she would dissolve the party further into competing factions. Perhaps a three party system can take hold and the lunatics can have their run of the asylum.
