The Prairie Dog is looking for a graphic designer. If you’re local and looking for a job, get the details here. Also, SaskPower is looking to fill a temporary design position though the requirements include that you “must be eligible for Licentiate GDC (Graphic Designers of Canada) Membership at time of appointment and successfully attain Professional GDC Membership within 2 years of appointment.” I don’t know about that. If you don’t wanna join the GDC you shouldn’t have to join the GDC. That seems a little lame. If you do wanna join, just look at all the awesome things you get for your dues. What’s wrong with a company insisting that their graphic design staff be qualified according the standards set by industry’s national certification body?

Seems kind of the point of GDC to me in many respects.

No, I’m not a GDC member. I respect the GDC and what it does but I don’t think membership should be a stipulation for a job. That’s just my opinion. Congrats on your membership and good for you for hiring members of the GDC. It just seems to me that when resumes come across the desk, they are welcome to only choose candidates who are already members but why should you have to become a member if you get the job?

Oh, and I also don’t think I should have to download a plug-in to view a website and learn about a business but again, that’s just my opinion.
