Critique and design challenge.
Ok, here’s the deal. I’m looking for more out of this. I mean, I enjoy it and everything. It’s fun writing posts and sharing things with people but, it’s so one sided. You know, writing to a void. Um, it gets a little lonely. Sooo, I’m going to try something out here which will go down in flames like everything else I seem to try. I am actively seeking examples of bad advertising, of bad album covers, of bad posters or what have you. I’m also seeking examples of good design. I’m looking for things that you find locally or things that are removed from your sphere. I’m looking for your experiences with design either as a practitioner or as an observer, either way, no skill required. I’m looking for activity from the people that read this. I’m looking for people to talk to one and other outside of Facebook or MySpace or whatever it is now that the kids are so enamoured with.
To that end, I’ve started two new categories here, Design Challenge and Critique. The goal behind Critique is to get people to start commenting on design and, well, critique it. It doesn’t matter if you know anything about design, if you follow design or if you could care less. It would be good to get a better understanding of the place that design fits and how it affects people without all the bullshit. Just a thought. It might be a good time to remind people that comments are greatly appreciated. You know, you don’t have to use a real e-mail address, you don’t have to use a real name. I’m not going to know who you are and neither will anyone else. It might be nice. Obviously, this is where I’m looking for those links to things mentioned in that previous paragraph. E-mails to wade[and then that at symbol and then]signalresponse.com
The next category is Design Challenge. That’s basically what it sounds like. I’m thinking personally that I need some things to do. I get bored easily so I’m going to be looking for input on what to do for the week in my spare time. I’m also hoping that anyone who reads this with a computer and a cracked version of Photoshop or a pen, some paper and a scanner will throw their hat in the ring as well. I mean, what else do you have to do? You know for fun?
Also, I realize that the basic thrust of the site is pretty “Wade Centric”. It’s Mac, design, bitterness and spite. It should be more. I try my hardest to keep it as general as possible. As difficult as it may be to believe, I try to keep as much of myself out of it as I can which can prove to be difficult given my generally sour attitude and highly opinionated nature. I’ve got lots of room on here and I’m offering some up. You can remain anonymous (you may have noticed that I’m kind of big on anonymity here. I call my girlfriend “the girl” and refer to most people by their initials.) If you feel you can contribute (and I mean about anything. If you like music, contribute about music. If you know about cooking, post about cooking.) and can prove to me that I know you, get a hold of me. I mean, I don’t need to know your name, you just have to know something about me that only someone I know would know. Awkward sentence? Damn, you bet. I’m assuming no one is going to take me up on this but, I thought I’d throw it out there in case anyone out there is looking for an outlet (no web experience necessary, it’s as easy as anything else on the internet! No wires!)
Anyway, thanks for paying attention to this rambling. Maybe I’m just depressed. Maybe this house hunting is starting to get to me. Maybe I’m just stressed. Who knows? Maybe I just need to take a break. Beauty and the Geek is on and I hate that fat cowboy dude so I better start paying attention.
