If you’re getting started.
I ain’t no expert. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t until last year that I really started thinking about learning more about web design than I knew which is why I started this site and why the design of it changes about once every four months. In perspective, the first and last piece of software I bought for doing web stuff was Dreamweaver 2.0 and that was in, um, 1998. I hated it. I hated the internet, I hated tables, I hated the type and I thought it was for hacks. I’ve learned better since. Now, I really like it. When I jumped back into it, I started by buying a piece of software, CSSEdit. I read some reviews and it seemed good but I honestly had no idea what it did. All I thought was “What’s CSS? What do you mean no tables?” So I headed over to CSS Zen Garden, read a couple of books and kind of got a grasp on what the hell was going on and jumped right in. I have it easy. I didn’t really have to unlearn anything, I just kind of started from scratch all over again. Anyway, if anyone else is interested in designing for the web or CSS or standards, there is an excellent post over on Veerle’s Blog that should get you headed in the right direction. It includes some handy links to resources you might use and tips on how to check and correct mistakes. Really worthwhile.
